Protect Your Floors

Floors are a big investment, even if you choose a more inexpensive option. Even if you wash your floors regularly and do everything you can to maintain them, they still see everyday wear that causes damage in the long run. Here are a few ways you can protect your floors from the hustle of everyday life.

Adhesive Furniture Pads
Put adhesive pads on the legs of your furniture. Even pulling out a chair to sit at the dinner table can cause scratches if the chairs don’t already have padding. There are many companies that sell adhesive pads that can be stuck onto furniture in seconds. They can even be found at the dollar store!

Cork
If you want the effect of the adhesive furniture pads but don’t want to run to the store or want a more environmentally friendly option, use old cork from wine bottles. Just slice the cork into thin pieces, add some double sided tape, and stick! It’s super easy and you might already have the materials at home.

Pre-made Covers
These are basically socks for chairs and tables. They slip under the foot of the chair to add a layer between the chair and floor. The advantage to this type of protection is that there are more options, so you can customize them depending on the type of floor you have. For example, they can come in cotton, plastic, rubber, glass, and more!

Socks
If you don’t want to buy special “socks” for your furniture, use actual human socks! This looks pretty silly, so you probably only want to do it when you’re moving furniture around, but it works. It can also look cute in a child’s playroom.

Area Rug
While it’s still best to avoid ruining any flooring, area rugs are an inexpensive way to protect floor from harm. If one of them is going to be ruined, an area rug is much easier and cost effective to replace. Plastic mats are also a good idea to keep under desks where rolling chairs are constantly moving around.

Remove Shoes
This one seems a little obvious, but we are all guilty of not taking the time to take off our shoes once in a while. The dirt on shoes can be harmful to floors, so try to remember to take them off when you can.

Keep your floors beautiful. Protect them and you can enjoy them for many years to come.
