Protect Your Floors from Trim Paint

Home / Hardwood Flooring / Protect Your Floors from Trim Paint

Refreshing the baseboards and trim can give your room a whole new look, but a major concern for homeowners is how they can protect their floor in the process. Fortunately, the answer is simpler than you may think: Packing tape.

When painting baseboards that sit near carpet flooring, we suggest taping the floor with clear packing tape instead of painters tape. Once the area is completely taped, use a paint scraper to push the tape between the carpet and the baseboards. This will create a pocket that protects the floors from any paint that may drip into the tiny space between the baseboard the carpet.

For hardwood floors, stick with painters tape and do your best to get it as close to the trim as possible to minimize the space that paint could potentially get onto the floor.

Happy painting!
