Can I Use Hardwood in High Moisture Areas?

It’s no secret: hardwood floor isn’t the best flooring option in high moisture areas. But that doesn’t mean you can’t use it at all! When it comes to hardwood flooring in kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms, there are a few things you should consider.

Make sure you read the manufacturer’s fine print before deciding on the type of floor you want to have installed. Some manufacturers don’t cover their products if they’re placed in rooms with high moisture levels, like bathrooms.

Some hardwood flooring manufacturers produce higher quality engineered hardwood that stands up to more moisture than more inferior products, so they’re covered by the warranty.

The type of finish your floor has will also determine how well it can stand up to moisture. Choose a durable finish that can stand up to more frequent cleaning, because kitchen and bathroom floors tend to be cleaned more often than living room floors. The best hardwood for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms are the ones that have been finished on the back, sides and grooves of the plank as well. These will hold up better with a spill.

Make sure the hardwood you choose has been sealed off at the end grain. The end grain is the most susceptible part of the plank when it comes to moisture.

The engineered hardwood that we get from Antique Impressions checks off all these requirements! Come on in and look at our selection.
