We’ve told you how to clean carpet and vinyl tile with natural floor cleaners. But what about options for hardwood?

Damp Mopping

Water is not your friend. If too much water builds up on your hardwood floor and soaks in, it will cause warping and permanent damage to your floor. You should always use damp mopping for hardwood. Damp mopping is when the mop is barely wet, which you can achieve by wetting your mop and wringing out as much water as possible. Mop the floor twice: once to dissolve dirt; and a second time to rinse the floor. With damp mopping, you might have to clean certain rooms more often than others, like high-traffic areas like the kitchen. You can buff the floor dry with a towel.

Non-Toxic Solution

The best option for non-toxic floor cleaning is a 1/4 cup of mild liquid dishwashing detergent added to a bucket of warm water, which you can then use with your mop.

Scuff Marks

Got scuff marks? Sprinkle some baking soda on a damp sponge and rub the affected area.

As always, we recommend using your manufacturer-recommended cleaning solution for the best results!
